Fire! Orchestra

Fire! Orchestra is an avant-garde musical collective stemming from the Scandinavian experimental music scene, renowned for their groundbreaking approach that melds jazz improvisation with elements of noise, psychedelia, and contemporary composition. The brainchild of Swedish power trio Fire! – comprising saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, bassist Johan Berthling, and drummer Andreas Werliin – Fire! Orchestra expands this base into a massive ensemble that has seen fluctuating configurations, at times comprising upwards of thirty musicians. Their debut album, "Exit!" released in 2013, introduced a sweeping and bold sound, where a multitude of instruments coalesced into a frenetic yet purposeful sonic maelstrom.

Since their inception, the size and scale of Fire! Orchestra have adjusted but their commitment to pushing musical boundaries has remained steadfast. Over the years, Fire! Orchestra has cemented their legacy by releasing a series of critically acclaimed albums. "Enter" (2014) and "Ritual" (2016) furthered their exploration of the intersections between free jazz and orchestral grandeur. With "Arrival" (2019), the ensemble distilled their sound to a more concentrated group yet preserved the ambitious sprawl of their earlier records. Their latest projects, "Actions" (2020) and "Echoes" (2021), have seen them delve even deeper into the realms of abstract harmonies and controlled cacophony, reflecting a continuous evolution that has kept listeners and critics alike both challenged and engrossed. Fire! Orchestra remains a formidable force in the international experimental music scene, renowned for their uncompromising artistry and their fiercely original concerts.
