Fernand de la Tombelle
Fernand de la Tombelle was a French composer and organist who lived from 1854 to 1928. Though not a household name today, he was a respected figure in French musical circles during his lifetime. He studied with some pretty big names, including Alexandre Guilmant for organ and Théodore Dubois for composition, which definitely shows in his sophisticated and well-crafted music.
De la Tombelle's output is fairly diverse, encompassing chamber music, choral works, symphonic pieces, and mélodies (French art songs). He seemed particularly drawn to chamber music, as evidenced by his trio and quartet. While his style is rooted in the late Romantic tradition, it has a distinct French flair, characterized by elegance and melodic charm.
