Michele Mascitti

Michele Mascitti was an Italian Baroque composer and violinist born in 1664 in Naples. He was a student of Pietro Marchitelli and possibly also studied under Arcangelo Corelli. Mascitti began his career in Italy but eventually settled in Paris around the early 18th century, where he gained favor at the French court and was even granted French citizenship by King Louis XV. His music blends Italian virtuosity with the French elegance that was popular in his adopted home. Over his career, Mascitti published several collections of sonatas, many of which were highly regarded for their expressive melodies and technical demands. He passed away in Paris in 1760, leaving behind a legacy as a prominent figure in the transition between the High Baroque and early Classical styles.
