Cows

Cows were an influential noise rock band that emerged from the vibrant Minneapolis music scene in the mid-1980s, known for their abrasive and chaotic sound that deftly melded punk, noise, and a healthy dose of sonic eccentricity. Led by the distinctive stage presence and vocal stylings of frontman Shannon Selberg, who often employed a bugle alongside his wild, often surreal lyrical themes, the band's sound was propelled by the relentless energy of guitarist Thor Eisentrager, bassist Kevin Rutmanis, and a series of drummers including Norm Rogers and Freddy Votel.

Throughout their active years, Cows released a slew of cult-classic albums that showcased their penchant for dissonance and irreverence. "Daddy Has A Tail" (1989) and "Cunning Stunts" (1992) are often cited as seminal works that encapsulate the band's raw ethos, while the latter's re-release underscored its lasting impact. Their musical journey progressed through the '90s with albums like "Sexy Pee Story" (1993) and "Orphan's Tragedy" (1994), which continued to build their underground following. The band's swansong came with the release of "Sorry In Pig Minor" (1998), a culmination of their experimental artistry that cemented their legacy as pivotal architects of the noise rock genre. Even though the Cows have since disbanded, their work, including the retrospective collection "Old Gold (1989-91)", remains a touchstone for aficionados of off-kilter and uncompromising rock music.
