Missing Persons were a Los Angeles–based new wave band that broke through in the early 1980s, known for their sharp synth-pop sound, punchy rhythms, and offbeat, fashion-forward vibe. The group’s best-known lineup featured singer Dale Bozzio alongside drummer Terry Bozzio (formerly of Frank Zappa’s band), keyboardist Chuck Wild, guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, and bassist Patrick O’Hearn. They first made noise with the *Missing Persons* EP (1981) and soon landed a bigger audience with their debut album *Spring Session M* (1982).
They’re most closely associated with early-’80s MTV-era staples like “Walking in L.A.,” “Words,” and “Destination Unknown,” pairing catchy hooks with a sleek, slightly quirky edge that helped define the period’s new wave pop. Over the years the band’s catalog has been revisited through live recordings and re-recorded tracks, keeping their signature sound in circulation for longtime fans and new listeners alike.
