Hammerbox

Hammerbox was an American alternative rock band from Seattle, Washington, that was an integral part of the city's grunge scene in the early 1990s. The band formed in 1990 and consisted of Carrie Akre on vocals, Harris Thurmond on guitar, Dave Bosch on drums, and James Atkins on bass. Known for their dynamic sound that fused elements of punk, metal and hard rock, Hammerbox quickly made a name for themselves with their raw, energetic live performances and Akre's commanding vocal presence.

Their self-titled debut album, "Hammerbox," was released in 1991 and contributed significantly to their early reputation, compellingly showcasing their talent and potential within the burgeoning grunge movement. This was followed by their much anticipated second album, "Numb," in 1993, which featured a more polished sound and included some of their most notable tracks, gaining them further attention within the alternative music sphere. Despite the buzz around the band and their participation in the thriving Seattle music scene that launched the careers of such giants as Nirvana and Soundgarden, Hammerbox never achieved mainstream success and disbanded shortly after the release of "Numb". They left behind a legacy of intense, passionate music that still resonates with grunge aficionados, as reflected in subsequent releases such as "Tragic Static," which offered additional B-sides, demos, and live recordings that further highlighted the band's raw power and emotional depth.
