The Prefab Messiahs

The Prefab Messiahs are a proto-lo-fi post-punk band from Worcester, Massachusetts, formed in 1981. They were part of the "Wormtown" punk and arts scene, known for their garage pop sound, which has been compared to bands like Television Personalities, White Fence, and Thee Oh Sees. Originally active from 1981 to 1983, the band played a mix of basement and club shows, often using borrowed equipment. Their early work was largely unrecorded until the release of the 1998 anthology CD-R "Devolver," which included tracks produced by Bobb Trimble, a fellow musician and friend of the band.

The Prefab Messiahs have experienced a resurgence in popularity with releases like the 2015 EP "Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive" and more recent reworkings of their songs, such as the 2025 "Re-Fabs" series. Their music style blends elements of psych-pop and garage rock, earning them a micro-legendary status among fans of underground music.
