Flory Jagoda was a Bosnian-born American musician known for her significant contributions to Sephardic music. Born in 1923 in Sarajevo, Bosnia, she grew up in a Sephardic Jewish family where music played a central role. Jagoda became famous for preserving and performing Ladino songs, the traditional music of Sephardic Jews.
After surviving the Holocaust, Jagoda moved to the United States, where she continued her musical career. She was nicknamed "the keeper of the flame" for her efforts in maintaining Sephardic musical traditions. Jagoda composed, performed, and taught Ladino songs, helping to keep this unique cultural heritage alive. Her most famous composition is "Ocho Kandelikas" (Eight Little Candles), a Hanukkah song that has become popular worldwide.
