The Telescopes

The Telescopes are an influential British band that has been pushing the boundaries of noise, drone, and psych since their formation in 1987. Founded by Stephen Lawrie in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, the group initially garnered attention with a sound that fell between the feedback-laden sonics of the Jesus and Mary Chain and the shoegaze textures of My Bloody Valentine. They released their seminal debut album, "Taste," in 1989, which helped cement their status within the burgeoning shoegaze scene. Through a continuously evolving lineup and sonic explorations, Lawrie remained at the helm, guiding The Telescopes through the shoegaze heyday and into a more experimental and noise-oriented direction.

Over the years, The Telescopes have refused to be stagnant, exploring various genres from dreamy psych to aggressive, avant-garde soundscapes. Their more recent work, such as "Songs of Love and Revolution" and "Strange Waves," reveals a band that has matured without losing the intensity and willingness to explore the unknown. Continually reinventing themselves, The Telescopes have released a plethora of recordings, with a discography that features numerous singles, EPs, and albums that challenge and captivate listeners. Intriguing remixes like "45e (Mosaic Runes Remix)" and "Leave Nobody Behind (Black Market Karma Remix)" showcase the band's influence on and collaboration with contemporary artists in the genre. Through shifting palettes of sound, The Telescopes have established a legacy that is both enigmatic and enduring within the world of underground and experimental music.
