Friedrich Burgmüller

Friedrich Burgmüller, born Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmüller on December 4, 1806, in Regensburg, Germany, was a renowned German pianist and composer of the Romantic era. He hailed from a musical family; his father, Friedrich August Burgmüller, and his brother, Norbert Burgmüller, were also composers. In 1832, Burgmüller moved to Paris, where he adopted the French musical style and developed a light, elegant playing technique. He is best known for his educational piano pieces, particularly his collections of études, including Op. 100, Op. 105, and Op. 109, which remain popular among piano students today. Burgmüller also composed salon music, variations, waltzes, nocturnes, and polonaises, and was involved in stage works, including the ballets *La Péri* and *Lady Harriet*.

Burgmüller's compositions often featured in educational collections, and his études are still widely used in piano instruction. His work reflects a blend of German and French influences, showcasing his versatility as a composer. Despite his contributions to the world of music, Burgmüller passed away in Paris on February 13, 1874, leaving behind a legacy of accessible yet engaging piano music that continues to inspire young musicians. The recent releases listed do not appear to be directly associated with his original compositions but may be reinterpretations or arrangements of his works.
