Charlie Gower-Smith

Charlie Gower-Smith is a highly respected choral conductor and musical director based in North Yorkshire. He leads the acclaimed Jervaulx Singers, founded in 2021, which is recognized as one of the finest vocal ensembles in the UK and is known for its narrative-driven programs combining choral music, solo songs, and semi-staged opera excerpts. He is also the Musical Director of the Chapter House Youth Choir, which he founded in 2016, guiding young singers in York to reach high levels of performance, including collaborations with renowned groups such as The King's Singers and the Gabrieli Consort.

Charlie is renowned for his warm, energetic, and encouraging style, demanding both precision and excellence from his choirs. He has prepared choirs for prestigious performances including the BBC Proms and live radio broadcasts. Beyond conducting, he is active as a choral animateur, leading workplace choirs and board member of the Made with Music charity in Leeds. Outside of music, he enjoys cooking with his daughters and cleaning his car. His work has been praised for its ability to blend high-caliber solo singing within choral textures, as heard on his albums such as *Les chansons des roses* and *In the Stillness*.
