The Rondels

The **Rondels** were a 1960s instrumental rock group from Boston, Massachusetts, made up of Lennie Petze, Jimmy Petze, Ray Pizzi, and Lenny Collins. The band kicked off their career in 1959 after the members had played together in earlier Boston-area groups like The Rhythm Rockers. They caught the attention of legendary producer Bugs Bower, who brought them to New York to record a cover of "Greensleeves"—a demo that would launch their professional journey. The Rondels became known for their distinctive blend of instrumental rock, surf rock, and R&B, and they found mainstream success with their single "Back Beat No. 1." Over the course of the 1960s, the band recorded approximately 120 songs across multiple Boston studios, establishing themselves as a prominent instrumental rock act of their era.

Though the group's active run has long since passed, The Rondels' legacy has been preserved through recent anthology releases, with Fervor Records digitally reissuing their work starting in 2021—giving new audiences a chance to discover their energetic instrumental rock sound.
