Dust is a hard rock power trio from New York City, formed in 1969 by guitarist Richie Wise along with two teenagers, bassist Kenny Aaronson and drummer Marc Bell (who later became famous as Marky Ramone of The Ramones). They released two albums on Kama Sutra Records, *Dust* (1971) and *Hard Attack* (1972), which are now considered early examples of American heavy metal. Despite their brief career, Dust gained a cult following and historical interest, especially since members went on to notable music careers: Richie Wise became a successful producer (notably for Kiss), Kenny Aaronson played with several well-known acts, and Marc Bell became a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer.
Separately, there is a more recent Bulgarian heavy metal band also named Dust, active as of 2025, with releases like *VII*, *Azure Eyes*, *Eaten First*, and *Ard'erra*. This newer Dust is distinct from the 1970s American group and represents a contemporary metal act from Bulgaria.
