Far Out Radio Systems is the creative alias of Thomas Neyens, a Belgian scientist-musician. By day, Thomas is a professor of statistics at UHasselt and KU Leuven, with interests in spatial statistics and ecology. By night, he transforms into a music producer, intrigued by the West Coast Synthesis sound, which he combines with minimal aesthetics and quirky melodies. His musical output reflects a blend of ambient, IDM, and electronic dance music, often exploring themes related to a world in distress. Thomas has released several notable albums, including "On Boolean Plains," which marked his debut, and more recent works such as "Mariana No Death." His live performances are notable for their full analog setup, which he premiered at the Horst Arts & Music Festival in 2021.
Thomas Neyens' journey as Far Out Radio Systems began with releases on his own Tanzbar Records and Curle Recordings. He gained confidence to produce music that resonates with his artistic vision, independent of typical DJ-oriented expectations. His albums showcase a range from ambient to distorted acid house and techno, reflecting a diverse electronic sound. Alongside his musical career, he balances his academic pursuits, creating unique parallels between his scientific and artistic endeavors.
