Ferdinando Paer (1771–1839) was an Italian composer best known for his contributions to opera during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Born in Parma, he gained prominence as a composer of opera seria and opera buffa, crafting works that bridged the Classical and early Romantic styles. Paer held prestigious positions, including Kapellmeister in Dresden and later in Paris, where he composed for Napoleon's court. His operas, such as *Leonora* and *Achille*, were admired in their time, and his influence extended to younger composers like Gioachino Rossini. Beyond opera, he also wrote sacred music and instrumental works, earning recognition as a distinctive voice in the transition from Mozart to early Romantic composers.
