Washed Out is the chillwave music project of American singer-songwriter and record producer Ernest Greene. Emerging from the early 2010s chillwave scene, Greene garnered significant attention with his dreamy, synth-laden sounds that conjure feelings of warmth and nostalgia. Washed Out's music, characterized by hazy vocals and immersive electronic landscapes, quickly came to define the genre, striking a chord with listeners seeking escapism through music.

Greene's journey as Washed Out began with his 2011 debut album "Within and Without," which earned critical acclaim for its ethereal production and emotive ambience. Continuing to evolve his sound, Washed Out released subsequent albums such as "Paracosm" in 2013 and "Mister Mellow" in 2017, the latter of which introduced a more experimental, visually accompanied format. His most recent album, "Purple Noon" released in 2020, marks a return to the melodically-rich and transportive atmospheres that are quintessentially Washed Out. Throughout his career, Greene has also demonstrated a skill for remixing, as seen in his re-imaginings of tracks like "Hot Sugar" and contributions to the remix culture with alternative versions of his own songs, including "Eyes Be Closed (Remixes)."
