Fun. is an American indie pop band based in New York City that took the music world by storm in the early 2010s with their anthemic hit "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monáe. Formed in 2008 by Nate Ruess, formerly the lead singer of The Format, alongside instrumentalists Jack Antonoff (previously of Steel Train) and Andrew Dost (formerly of Anathallo), the trio quickly made a name for themselves with their distinctive blend of theatrical pop, indie sensibilities, and confessional lyrics.
After their debut with "Aim and Ignite" in 2009, a critically acclaimed album noted for its sophisticated orchestrations and ambitious sound, Fun. released their breakthrough album "Some Nights" in 2012. The title track and "We Are Young" resonated with a wide audience, leading to skyrocketing sales, a performance at the Grammy Awards, and several wins, including the Song of the Year accolade for "We Are Young." The success of these singles, with their signature mixture of upbeat melodies and introspective themes, placed Fun. among the most recognizable acts of the early 2010s. Despite going on hiatus in 2015, the band's legacy continues through their poignant lyrics, dynamic arrangements, and the members' subsequent individual ventures in the music industry.
