Frankie Gavin

Frankie Gavin is one of traditional Irish music's most acclaimed fiddlers, revered both for his virtuosic skill and his deep dedication to the preservation and celebration of Ireland's musical heritage. Born in 1956 in Corrandulla, County Galway, Ireland, Gavin's talent was evident from a young age as he took up the fiddle and tin whistle, drawing on the rich tapestry of Irish musical tradition that surrounded him. His proficiency led him to win All-Ireland competitions for fiddle and flute, cementing his reputation as a master musician early in life.

As a founding member of the seminal traditional Irish band De Dannan, Gavin has been at the forefront of Irish folk music since the 1970s, propelling the genre to international acclaim with his electrifying performances and groundbreaking recordings. Frankie Gavin has continued to explore the boundaries of Irish music through both solo projects and collaborations, as evident in his recent releases such as "Eire Japan," a celebration of Irish and Japanese musical fusion, and "Irlande (Live)," which captures the dynamism of his performances. His dedication to the traditional arts is further displayed in "The Master's Return," a tribute to fiddler Joe Cooley, and his collaborative work in "Masters Of Irish Music: Frankie Gavin & Alec Finn," showcasing his synergy with long-time De Dannan bandmate. Through albums like "Ómós Do Joe Cooley" and "Croch Suas É," Gavin honors the legacy of past musicians while continuing to push the boundaries of Irish music, ensuring its relevance and evolution for years to come.
