Necking

Necking is a raucous all-woman punk quartet from Vancouver, Canada, serving up scrappy garage-rock energy with a side of feminist grit. Formed around 2017, the band – Hannah Karren (guitar/vocals), Julia Kobel (bass), Sydney Kaster (drums), and Al Boyle (guitar) – became known for their raw, DIY sound and live shows dripping with sweat and mosh-pit chaos. Their 2019 debut album *Cut Your Teeth* (featuring standouts like *Spare Me* and *Big Mouth*) became a cult favorite, blending sneering vocals and buzzsaw guitars with lyrics tackling patriarchy, mental health, and everyday frustrations. Tracks like *Still Exist* showcase their knack for wrapping defiant anthems in catchy three-chord blasts, solidifying their status as Canada's answer to the riot grrrl revival. While they've kept a lower profile since 2020, their unapologetic attitude and garage-punk bangers remain a shout-along reminder that good punk doesn't need polish.
