The Postal Service

The Postal Service was an American indie electronic band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 2001. Comprised of vocalist Ben Gibbard, best known as the frontman for the indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie, and producer Jimmy Tamborello, who also performs under the name Dntel, the group was rounded out with Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley, who provided additional vocals for their live shows and some recordings. The band's name was derived from the way Gibbard and Tamborello exchanged music back and forth through the mail to create their songs, thus functioning similarly to the postal service.

Their seminal album "Give Up" was released in 2003 and is their only full album to date. It garnered widespread acclaim for its blend of Tamborello's electronica production and Gibbard's emotive songwriting and vocals. The album included standout tracks such as "Such Great Heights," which became an indie anthem due to its buoyant melody and earnest lyrics, and "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," a moody reflection on love and loneliness. Despite having never released a follow-up album, The Postal Service's influence on the indie and electronic scenes has persisted. The band briefly reunited for a tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of "Give Up," which led to the release of "Give Up (Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition)" and the live album "Everything Will Change," giving fans a new way to experience their enduring electro-pop legacy.
