Tempesta di Mare is an American baroque orchestra based in Philadelphia, known for their performances of 17th- and 18th-century music. The group is led by artistic director and harpsichordist Richard Stone with co-directors Gwyn Roberts on oboe and flutist Emlyn Ngai.
The ensemble is named after the Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi's concerto for violin and orchestra titled 'Tempesta di Mare' or 'Storm at Sea.' They are distinguished by their vibrant and expressive interpretations of lesser-known baroque works in addition to well-established masterpieces of that era. Their extensive discography encompasses works of renowned composers like Vivaldi, Telemann, and Fasch, as well as more obscure baroque masters whose music Tempesta di Mare regularly showcases.
