F.R. David, born Elli Robert Fitoussi on 1 January 1947 in Menzel Bourguiba, Tunisia, is a French singer and musician, best known for his 1982 hit single "Words," which became a massive success, topping charts across Europe and reaching audiences worldwide. Before breaking through as a solo artist, F.R. David played guitar with Vangelis and played on several of the Greek composer's projects. He also gained experience as a part of the French rock band Les Variations, known for being one of the first French bands to tour the US.
F.R. David's smooth voice and European flair for synthetic pop fused with catchy melodies helped define the early '80s musical landscape. His debut album "Long Distance Flight" not only housed "Words," which sold over eight million records globally, but also featured tracks such as "I Need You" and "Music." Although he never replicated the same level of international success as "Words," F.R. David continued producing music and remains a memorable figure for his contributions to the synthpop genre and his talent for crafting memorable pop tunes. Over the years, F.R. David has released new material and remixes, including the "Words (Remix 2020)" and "Words (Don't Come Easy - ReMix)," ensuring his iconic hit continues to resonate with both original fans and new listeners.
