Pery Ribeiro

Pery Ribeiro (born Peri Ribeiro de Castro) was a Brazilian singer closely associated with the bossa nova era. He was the son of two major names in Brazilian music—composer Herivelto Martins and singer Dalva de Oliveira—and came to prominence in the early 1960s with a smooth, relaxed vocal style that fit perfectly alongside the new wave of samba-jazz and bossa-inflected songwriting coming out of Rio.

Across a long career he recorded widely in Brazil and abroad, and became known for interpreting both Brazilian standards and romantic repertoire, including boleros. He also spent time living and performing in the United States, helping bring Brazilian popular music to international audiences through recordings and live shows.
