Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll were the creators and voice actors of the immensely popular "Amos 'n' Andy" radio show, which began in the late 1920s. The duo portrayed the main characters, Amos Jones and Andrew Hogg Brown, two Black men from the rural South who moved to Chicago. The show became one of the first hit radio comedy series in the United States.
While hugely popular in its time, the show has since been heavily criticized for its use of racial stereotypes and its portrayal of Black characters by white performers. Gosden and Correll's work had a significant impact on early radio entertainment, but it also reflects the problematic racial attitudes of early 20th century America.
