Je Suis Animal is a Norwegian-English indie pop band formed in Oslo in 2004. The band consists of Elin Grimstad, Merete Hald, Matt Bagguley, Anthony Barratt, and later joined by Pål Anders Barth Larsen. Their music is characterized by a delicate, reverb-kissed sound that draws inspiration from old-school indie pop acts like My Bloody Valentine and Stereolab. In 2008, they released their debut album, *Self-Taught Magic from a Book*, which was initially recorded in a unique setting—a disused community center in Hedalen—using an eight-track recorder and a handful of microphones. This album was later licensed to several labels, including Angular Recording Corporation. The band has also released several singles and EPs, such as *Painted in My Face* and *The Mystery of Marie Roget / Secret Place*.
Their early work often featured in film soundtracks, with one of their songs, "Fortune Map," appearing in the 2005 film *Tommys Inferno*. Je Suis Animal's music style is deeply rooted in the indie pop genre, with a distinctive blend of dreamy textures and melodic hooks. Over the years, they have maintained a loyal following and continue to contribute to the vibrant indie music scene.
