Reinhard Goebel is a distinguished German Baroque violinist and conductor, renowned for his rigorous and informed performances of early music. Born on July 31, 1952, in Siegen, Germany, Goebel developed an affinity for the intricate artistry of historically informed performance early in his career. After studying at the Cologne Conservatory with Franzjosef Maier, the concertmaster of Collegium Aureum, Goebel founded the ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln in 1973, which he led until its dissolution in 2006. Musica Antiqua Köln, under Goebel's meticulous direction, gained international acclaim for their virtuosic and stylistically authentic interpretations, particularly of 17th- and 18th-century music.
Goebel's solo career and musical direction have contributed significantly to the revival and increased appreciation of Baroque music, as evidenced by his extensive discography, which boasts a compelling blend of both well-recognized and obscure works from the era. His recordings, such as "Reinhard Goebel Conducts Bach," reflect a deep reverence and keen insight into the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach, while albums like "La Cremona - Concerti per 3 & 4 Violini" and "Vivaldi Concerto F-Dur RV 551" attest to his skill in unearthing and vivifying the opulent complexity of Antonio Vivaldi's music. Goebel's breadth of expertise is also showcased in his interpretations of chamber music, as seen in pieces from Jean-Marie Leclair in "Leclair: Musique De Chambre." Beyond Baroque, Goebel has a keen interest in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, leading to projects such as "New Mozart" and adaptations of lesser-known works. His ongoing pursuit of musical excellence and historical fidelity has made him one of the stalwarts in the field of Baroque and early Classical music.
