Markus Stenz

Markus Stenz is a German conductor known for his work across both core symphonic repertoire and contemporary music. He served as Generalmusikdirektor (music director) of the City of Cologne, leading the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln and the Cologne Opera, and he’s also been closely associated with the modern-music scene through his long-running role as principal conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

Over the years, Stenz has appeared with major orchestras and opera houses throughout Europe and beyond, building a reputation for clear-eyed, energetic performances—whether he’s digging into late-Romantic symphonies or tackling brand-new scores.
