Live is an American rock band hailing from York, Pennsylvania, consisting of Ed Kowalczyk (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Chad Taylor (lead guitar, backing vocals), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass), and Chad Gracey (drums). Formed in the early 1980s under the name Public Affection, the band found global success after changing their name to Live and releasing their 1991 debut album, "Mental Jewelry", which was followed by their breakthrough album, "Throwing Copper," in 1994. "Throwing Copper" solidified their status in the rock realm, producing hits such as "Lightning Crashes," "I Alone," and "All Over You." Its impactful lyrics and powerful, anthemic sound captured the attention of audiences around the world, leading it to become a seminal record of the '90s alternative rock movement.
Throughout their career, Live has been revered for their raw, heartfelt lyricism and a potent blend of post-grunge and alt-rock. The band has endured hiatuses and lineup changes, most notably with Kowalczyk leaving in 2009 and rejoining in 2016. In the interim, Live released "The Turn" in 2014 with Chris Shinn as lead vocalist. However, with Kowalczyk's return, the original lineup remains intact, and their passion for music and performance has not waned. Their more recent works include "Local 717," an EP released in 2018, showing the band's willingness to experiment and evolve while staying true to their core sound. Live's influence on the genre and their consistent delivery of compelling live performances have sustained their reputation as a band with a dedicated following and a lasting legacy in rock music.
