Frightened Rabbit was a Scottish indie rock band formed in Selkirk in 2003 and originally consisted of Scott Hutchison (lead vocals, guitar), his brother Grant Hutchison (drums), and Billy Kennedy (guitar, bass). Over time, the band expanded to include Andy Monaghan (guitar, keyboards) and Simon Liddell (guitar). The name 'Frightened Rabbit' originated from a moniker given to Scott Hutchison by his mother due to his chronic shyness as a child. The band's music is known for its emotionally charged and candid lyrical content, often dealing with themes of loneliness, love, and loss.
Their career saw a steady ascent with a series of acclaimed albums. They first gained widespread acclaim with their sophomore album, "The Midnight Organ Fight," released in 2008, which won a loyal fanbase with its raw, poetic songwriting. Frightened Rabbit continued to gain momentum with subsequent releases such as "The Winter of Mixed Drinks" (2010), "Pedestrian Verse" (2013), and "Painting of a Panic Attack" (2016). The band's penchant for evocative storytelling and anthemic indie rock made them a cherished fixture within the music community. Tragically, in May 2018, Scott Hutchison passed away, leaving a lasting impact on the fans and musicians his work had touched, which was further celebrated in the tribute album "Tiny Changes: A Celebration of Frightened Rabbit's 'The Midnight Organ Fight'". Their music remains a poignant testament to Hutchison’s talent as a songwriter and the band’s ability to connect deeply with an audience.
