Paul Banks is best known as the lead singer and guitarist of the New York City-based post-punk revival band Interpol. With his distinctive baritone voice and introspective lyrics, Banks became a key figure in the early 2000s indie rock resurgence. Interpol's debut album, Turn On the Bright Lights (2002), gained critical acclaim and helped define the sound of that era. Outside the band, Banks has explored solo work under both his own name and the pseudonym Julian Plenti.
His solo projects showcase a different side of his musical personality, blending moody rock with experimental elements. Releases like Banks (2012) and Julian Plenti Lives... (2012) highlight his versatility as a songwriter. He’s also been involved in various collaborations, including work with rapper El-P in the duo Banks & Steelz. Whether with Interpol or on his own, Paul Banks continues to be a creative force in the alternative and indie music scenes.
