Fausto Romitelli

Fausto Romitelli was an innovative Italian composer whose compelling work bridged the divide between spectral music and rock sensibilities. Born on February 1, 1963, in Gorizia, Romitelli pursued his passion for music composition by studying at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and later at the Scuola Civica di Milano. His quest for sonic exploration led him to Paris, where he delved into contemporary music studies at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique). Romitelli's music is characterized by its richly textured layers, incorporating elements of psychedelia, distortion, and the manipulation of timbres to create immersive auditory experiences.

Romitelli's career was marked by a fervent desire to challenge the limitations of traditional concert music, which is evident in his works that seamlessly blend the academic with the visceral impact of electric sound. One of his most notable compositions, "Professor Bad Trip," reflects his unique approach to composition, drawing inspiration from the writings of Henri Michaux and the mind-altering experiences induced by hallucinogens. Romitelli's vision was cut short when he tragically passed away on June 27, 2004, after battling with cancer, but his legacy endures through his groundbreaking pieces. His posthumously released and remastered works, such as "Trash TV Trance", "An Index of Metals", and "The Nameless City", continue to captivate audiences and influence a new generation of composers with their genre-defying and otherworldly soundscapes.
