Barbara Dex (born 22 November 1974) is a Belgian singer best known internationally for representing Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with the song “Iemand als jij.” She’s also become a lasting part of Eurovision lore thanks to the “Barbara Dex Award,” a fan-created prize that started in 1997 for the contest’s most memorable outfit—named after the dress she wore in 1993.
Beyond Eurovision, Dex has built a steady career in Flanders, releasing albums and performing widely, often leaning into Dutch-language pop and schlager influences while also exploring lighter, contemporary pop sounds.
