Ferenc Tarjáni was a renowned Hungarian horn player and educator, born on September 11, 1938, in Dorog, Hungary. He was celebrated for his contributions to classical music, particularly in Hungary, where he became a prominent figure as the first real horn soloist. Tarjáni won prestigious competitions, including the Geneva competition in 1962 and the Munich competition in 1964. He held significant positions such as co-principal of the Hungarian Radio Orchestra and was a member of the Hungarian Wind Quintet. Additionally, Tarjáni was recognized with several awards, including the Liszt Award in 1965 and 1967, and later became a Merited Artist in 1975 and an Excellent Artist in 1980.
Throughout his career, Tarjáni also engaged in educational roles as a professor of horn. He passed away on December 27, 2017, in Budapest. His legacy is preserved through recordings of classical horn concertos and chamber music, such as Haydn and Mozart's horn concertos, reflecting his dedication to the genre.
