Richie Sambora is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer best known as the longtime lead guitarist of Bon Jovi. Joining the New Jersey rock band in 1983, Sambora became a big part of its signature sound—mixing arena-rock riffs with melodic leads—and co-wrote many of the group’s biggest songs alongside Jon Bon Jovi, including “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” and “It’s My Life.”
Outside the band, he’s also built a solo career that shows off a more personal, rootsy side of his writing and vocals, with releases like *Stranger in This Town* (1991), *Undiscovered Soul* (1998), and *Aftermath of the Lowdown* (2012). Sambora stepped away from Bon Jovi in 2013, but his influence on modern rock guitar and mainstream songwriting—and his role in one of rock’s defining hit catalogs—remains unmistakable.
