Alexandra Chernyshova is a Ukrainian-born operatic soprano and composer now based in Reykjavik, Iceland, where she’s built a vibrant career as both a performer and a creator of new music. Born in Kiev and trained at the R. Glier Kiev Institute of Music and the National Music Academy by N. Nezdanova in Odessa, Chernyshova graduated with honors and a Golden Medal in 2003. Her academic background is as broad as her artistry: she holds advanced degrees in educational management, philology, and music, including master’s degrees from the Iceland Academy of the Arts and Bifröst University.
Chernyshova’s work spans traditional and contemporary opera, with performances at prestigious international festivals and as a soloist at the Kiev Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. She’s known for her lyric coloratura soprano voice and has composed operas such as the acclaimed Icelandic opera “The Poet and the Bishops Daughter” (Skáldið og Biskupsdóttirin), as well as original works for children and recent releases like “MAGICAL SKY ICELAND – SINFONIETTA,” “Molytva za Ukrainu,” and “Tonamus songs for children in Ukrainian.” Chernyshova is also an active educator and a member of the Icelandic Composers Society.
