Radial Spangle was an American indie rock band formed in 1991 in Norman, Oklahoma. The band consisted of Alan Laird on vocals and guitar, April Tippens on bass guitar, and Richard English, formerly of the Flaming Lips, on drums. English was later replaced by Kelsey Kennedy. Known for their eclectic sound, Radial Spangle released two albums: *Ice Cream Headache* in 1993 and *Syrup Macrame* in 1994. The band's music featured a mix of abrasive guitar effects, dreamy pop elements, and experimental weirdness, highlighted by the quirky harmonies between Laird and Tippens. Despite their potential, the band chose not to tour extensively, instead focusing on their creative output from their hometown.
Radial Spangle gained attention for their unique sound and managed to secure a recording contract through connections with Mercury Rev's Jonathan Donahue. The band's work was engineered by David Fridmann, known for his collaborations with Mercury Rev and other notable bands. After disbanding in 1996, Alan Laird went on to form The Charm Pops, releasing music that included contributions from former Radial Spangle members and friends.
