Taube

Axel Evert Taube (12 March 1890 – 31 January 1976) was a Swedish singer‑songwriter, composer and author whose work defined the 20th‑century Swedish ballad tradition; born in Gothenburg and raised on the island of Vinga where his father Carl Gunnar Taube tended the lighthouse, he drew on the seafaring life, the archipelago and Mediterranean voyages to create vivid, lyrical songs such as “Flickan i Havanna,” “Calle Schewen” and “Sång om den sista blomman,” earning him lasting acclaim as Sweden’s foremost troubadour; in addition to his prolific musical output he wrote poetry and prose, and his cultural legacy continued through his son Sven‑Bertil Taube, a noted musician and actor; Evert Taube died in Stockholm and is buried in the churchyard of Maria Magdalena Church on Södermalm.
