Ruyonga is a Ugandan-born, US-based hip-hop and spoken word artist. Born Ivan Mugabi, he was previously known by the moniker "Krukid," which he earned during his high school days. Ruyonga's musical journey began with his first group winning a nationwide music competition in Uganda in 2000. He has since become a pioneering figure in Ugandan hip-hop, particularly in the genre known as "Lugaflow," which blends Luganda with hip-hop. Ruyonga has released several albums and has collaborated with notable artists such as Brother Ali, Slug of Atmosphere, Lupe Fiasco, K’Naan, and The Roots. His music often explores themes of identity, self-worth, and cultural fusion, while also advocating for positive social change.
