Captain Sensible, born Raymond Burns, is best known as the flamboyant guitarist and occasional vocalist for the legendary British punk band The Damned. A founding member, he helped shape the sound and attitude of punk rock in the late 1970s, contributing to the band's aggressive yet melodic style. Donning his trademark red beret, Captain Sensible became one of punk's most colorful characters—both literally and musically.
In the early 1980s, he launched a successful solo career, blending punk wit with pop sensibilities. His biggest solo hit, "Wot," showcased his knack for catchy, quirky tunes with a political edge. He's also known for his unexpected chart-topping cover of "Happy Talk" in 1982. Over the years, Captain Sensible has continued to release solo albums while remaining an integral part of The Damned, adding his unique mix of humor, activism, and rock ‘n’ roll energy to everything he does.
