Twisted Sister rose to prominence as an American heavy metal band hailing from Long Island, New York. Formed in 1972 by guitarist Jay Jay French, the group went through several iterations before finalizing a lineup in the late 1970s that included lead vocalist Dee Snider, guitarist Eddie "Fingers" Ojeda, bassist Mark Mendoza, and drummer A.J. Pero. With a flamboyant and aggressive style of glam metal, Twisted Sister became known for anthemic hard rock songs, shocking stage costumes, and high-energy performances, carving out a unique space in the world of metal and rock music.
The band's breakthrough came with their third studio album, "Stay Hungry" (1984), which featured the massive hits "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock," anthems of teenage rebellion that cemented their place in rock history. Despite internal disputes and changing musical landscapes, Twisted Sister established a cult following with their rebellious attitude and catchy hooks. Over time, they have released multiple albums and live records, including "A Twisted Christmas," which showcases their penchant for unconventional and spirited takes on various styles. Even after officially disbanding in 2016 following a farewell tour, Twisted Sister's legacy continues to influence the music industry, reflected in their consistent fan base and ongoing catalogue reissues and live album releases, such as "Metal Meltdown" and "Live at the Marquee Club."
