Hookworms were a psych-rock band based in Leeds, England, known for their dynamic blend of krautrock rhythms, shoegaze textures, and driving noise-rock energy. Formed in the late 2000s, the group built a reputation for high-intensity live shows and an immersive, often emotionally raw sound. Their debut album, Pearl Mystic (2013), received critical praise for its swirling sonic layers and cathartic energy, followed by The Hum (2014), which refined their sound and expanded their fanbase.
In 2018, Hookworms released Microshift, a bold stylistic shift that incorporated more electronic elements, detailed production, and personal lyrical themes—earning widespread acclaim and a Mercury Prize nomination consideration. Unfortunately, later that year, the band disbanded following serious allegations against a band member. Despite their relatively short career, Hookworms left a lasting impression on the UK underground music scene through their fierce creativity and evolution as artists.
