Purpendicular is a hard rock band originally founded in 2007 by Irish vocalist Robby Thomas Walsh, who got his start in the Dublin music scene before turning to professional music under the Purpendicular banner. The group initially made a name for itself as a Deep Purple tribute act—and indeed, they were the most booked Deep Purple tribute show in the world for a few years running. But they’ve since evolved into their own creative force, touring Europe and recording original albums that draw from hard rock, blues, and funk, with Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice becoming a core member and collaborator on recent releases.
The band’s discography has grown to include albums like **This Is the Thing 1** (2016), **Venus to Volcanus** (2017), **Human Mechanic** (2022), and **Banned** (2025), with singles such as “Blood Red Moon” and “You Better Behave” showcasing their modern take on classic rock vibes. Purpendicular’s live shows and studio recordings have also featured guest appearances from other rock veterans, including Roger Glover and Tony Carey, and their recent work is produced by Alessandro Debiaggi and Walsh, blending the energy of the ’70s with a contemporary edge. Their story is one of musicians who started by honoring their heroes and ended up creating a sound and a legacy all their own.
