Giovanni Battista Viotti (1755–1824) was an Italian violinist and composer who played a key role in shaping the modern violin concerto. His 29 violin concertos, particularly No. 22 in A minor, had a big influence on later composers like Beethoven and Brahms. Viotti’s virtuoso playing and expressive style helped lay the groundwork for the Romantic violin tradition. He spent much of his career in France and England, where he became a sought-after performer and even worked as a director at the Paris Opéra. Despite facing political and financial struggles, his legacy as a bridge between the Classical and Romantic periods remains strong.
