Fusing krautrock rhythms, chiptune aesthetics, and blown-out synth textures, Shmu’s work feels like stumbling into a fluorescent-lit arcade that’s secretly hosting a séance. Releases like *Diino Power: Plastiq Island* and *Hex Your Spirit Out* showcase his knack for transforming Nintendo-esque bleeps into oddly emotional journeys, while titles like *Haunted Nighttime Kohlrabi Casino* prove he’s mastered the art of surreal vibes. Operating with a DIY spirit, Hjelfing often records on vintage gear and collaborates with Austin’s weirdo music scene, creating music that’s equally suited for basement dance parties or staring at glow-in-the-dark ceiling stars.
