Fuath is a black metal project that is the brainchild of Scottish musician Andy Marshall, known for his atmospheric folk/black metal project Saor. The name 'Fuath' itself is Gaelic for 'hatred' or 'hostility', which reflects the more aggressive and raw nature of the music as compared to the often lush soundscapes of Saor. Drawing inspiration from the cold and bleak atmospheres of traditional black metal acts, Fuath delves into the depths of the genre's second wave, offering a sound that is both nostalgic and punishing.
Since its inception, Fuath has captured the essence of the stark and haunting landscapes of Scotland through relentless, tremolo-picked riffs and an undercurrent of melodic sensibilities. With the debut album "I" released in 2016, Fuath established a firm stance in the world of atmospheric black metal. Following that, a series of works including "Into the Forest of Shadows," "Prophecies," and the more recent "II," released in 2021, saw Marshall refining his songwriting and production, creating expansive and immersive auditory experiences. Despite the relatively sparse discography, Fuath has garnered a strong following and critical acclaim within the black metal community, celebrated for its unadulterated homage to the genre's roots as well as its ability to stir the deepest emotions with its bleak and beautiful soundscapes.
