Fortunat Frölich

Fortunat Frölich is a Swiss composer, conductor, cellist, and singer who grew up in Chur and now lives and works in Zurich. Born in 1954, he was inspired early on by performances like the “St Matthew Passion” in his hometown, sparking a lifelong passion for music that has taken many turns—from classical to pop and back again. Frölich studied cello, song, and orchestral conducting at conservatories in Zurich, Naples, and Leipzig, and has performed and collaborated with a wide range of musicians and ensembles both in Switzerland and internationally.

Throughout his career, Frölich has founded and led ensembles such as choR inteR kultuR, conducted orchestras, and composed works that blend classical traditions with influences from pop, jazz, and world music. He is known for his curiosity and openness to different musical styles, and he has received several awards for his innovative professional work, including prizes from the Culture Promotion Graubünden and the Uniun Chanzun Rumantscha. His creative approach often merges multimedia, improvisation, and global musical perspectives, making him a distinctive voice in contemporary Swiss music.
