Formatia Albatros is a Romanian music group that emerged in the early 1990s. Initially known as Albatros din București, the band was one of the first successful groups after the fall of communism in Romania. Their music often featured themes typical of lăutărească and țigănesc folklore, as well as more unusual subjects like the apology of criminality, which later became a common theme in manele music. The group's early success was marked by hits like "S-a mărit armata," which became iconic in Romanian popular culture.
Over the years, the band has undergone several lineup changes. In its early days, it included vocalist Iolanda Cristea, known as Naste din Berceni. Later, Cristian Lapădat and Marian Melcescu continued the group's legacy, eventually rebranding it as Acustic for a period before returning to the Albatros name. In recent years, Albatros has relaunched with a new lineup featuring Alex Roșu, Raluca Denise Iurascu, Alexandra Stone, and Bogdan Caragea, exploring a broader range of musical genres while maintaining their nostalgic appeal.
