Pity Sex was an indie rock band that carved a distinct sound in the emo revival landscape of the early to mid-2010s. Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, the band was known for their blend of shoegaze-like fuzzy guitars, introspective lyrics, and the interplay of male and female vocals, creating a vulnerable yet distorted emotive soundscape. Their formation took place in 2011, and they quickly gained traction in the underground music scene with their raw and melodic approach.
The band’s debut EP, "Dark World," released in 2012, showcased their potential and garnered significant attention from both fans and critics. They followed up with their first full-length album "Feast of Love" in 2013, which solidified their standing with tracks that explored themes of love, loss, and melancholy. Pity Sex continued to build on their moody, melodic sound with the release of their second album, "White Hot Moon," in 2016. This album further refined their signature blend of ethereal guitar work and arresting vocals. While the band participated in a few split releases, such as the "Adventures & Pity Sex (Split Version)" alongside the band Adventures, Pity Sex unfortunately disbanded in late 2016, leaving behind a notable imprint on the indie music scene with their evocative and sonorous anthems.
