The Tubes

The Tubes are an American rock band known for their wildly theatrical live shows and satirical, genre-blending music. Formed in San Francisco in the early 1970s, they gained notoriety for mixing rock, punk, and glam with provocative humor and elaborate stage performances. Their breakthrough came with the 1975 single “White Punks on Dope,” which became a cult favorite and established their reputation for biting social commentary.

Throughout the late ’70s and early ’80s, The Tubes continued to build a dedicated fan base with albums like Remote Control, The Completion Backward Principle, and Outside Inside. The latter featured their biggest commercial hit, “She’s a Beauty,” which reached the Top 10 in 1983. Known for blending musical skill with flamboyant showmanship, The Tubes carved out a unique space in rock history as both satirists and innovators.
