Alté (short for “alternative”) is a Nigeria-led, internet-native movement that blurs Afrobeats with R&B, hip-hop, dancehall, indie pop, and electronic textures. It favors dreamy synths, woozy guitar lines, punchy drums, and bass-heavy grooves, often pairing melodic singing with rap and spoken cadence. Lyrically, alté leans intimate and self-aware—romance, identity, nightlife, and soft rebellion—delivered with a cool, experimental edge rather than mainstream polish. The genre’s vibe is as much fashion and community as sound: colorful, DIY, and global, built for playlists, late-night drives, and sweaty small-venue shows.
